1967 Ford GT500
Real
1967 Shelbys are nice. They’re gorgeous, they’re collectible and
they are faster than the average ’67 Mustang, which isn’t
saying much. They’re also titanically expensive, and the average car
guy feels bad tooling around in a piece of history. What if, in one
car, you could fix all of those shortcomings? Yes, and here it is:
A Tony Branda-kitted, traffic stopping, Brittany Blue Shelby clone
with a real live side oiler 427 with Edelbrock heads and a Sidewinder
intake, a TREMEC TKO transmission and 9.. rear, anchored to the
ground by a full Chris Alston suspension package. Of course, all off
the little things are done–we don’t sell cars any other way.
Take a
look under the hood. That’s not just a 427–it’s an NOS block
stuffed with forged internals and topped with Edelbrock heads. The
intake, a true vintage C6AE-9424/J ..sidewinder.. intake, features
medium riser ports to match up to the Edelbrocks. Considering the
setup mimics the head configuration found in NASCAR you know the
flow’s there. A Holley 850 double pumper carb supplies the fuel
while an original distributor with a Pertronix ignitor and an MSD
ignition box carries spark from the reproduction coil through date
coded wires to the plugs. Pull apart the engine and you’ll find a
forged crank, HD rods and forged pistons swinging around for a total
displacement of 441 cubic inches. Dove roller rockers do their
dancing under Ford ..Le Mans.. aluminum valve covers which match
the Cobra air cleaner. Assembly was assigned to Jack’s Automotive in
Madison, IN due to their extensive experience with 427′s and Fords in
general. Cooling duties are handles by a Flex-A-Lite high capacity
aluminum radiator with twin electric fans and computer control. The
engine compartment is especially clean–notice the hidden wiper
motor, the battery in the trunk and the aluminum strips covering the
seams between the inner and outer fenders. The cam’s lope works with
the ceramic coated headers, X pipe and Flowmasters to conjure up a
soundtrack of epic proportions–this is a loud, fast car, built
right and dialed in.
The
bodywork and assembly was done by Signature Auto in Columbus,
Ohio–you may know them better as Boss Cars. These guys have been
doing Shelbys, Boss 302′s and 429′s and general high performance
Mustangs for a long time, and they know what to do with a set of
wrenches in their hands. A clean fastback shell was located (this
one started out with the lowly 289 2bbl, so it made perfect sense for
this build,) stripped, fixed and straightened. A Tony Branda body
kit went on, with many pieces molded into the body for a very clean
look. There’s a racing style fuel filler in the driver side C
pillar–you’ll notice it in the pictures and it’ll dawn on you the
rear gas cap is gone! Also gone is the trunk lock–you’ll find a
remote trunk release lever next to the driver seat. 15.. Wheels
wouldn’t fit the specifications of the chassis, so Shelby-style 17..
wheels went on, surrounded by Goodyear Easgle GT tires. They’re far
and away the best ..stretch job.. of any muscle car wheel we’ve
seen. Our favorite part about the exterior is the paint–red, black
or Eleanor silver sure look nice on a ’67 Shelby, but Brittany Blue,
a true Shelby color, makes the car stand out from the crowd. The
Wimbledon White stripes are just the right finishing touch.
Underneath,
round two of the mechanical makeover took place. If you opened a
Total Control catalog, flipped to the Mustang section, and said, ..I
want that.. you’d get an
idea of what’s going on. The rear end is deceptively stock, with HD
leaf springs and Koni shocks, but this ‘stang follows the hardware up
front like a slot car. Coil over Varishocks, tubular upper and lower
control arms, HD billet tie rod sleeves, a rack and pinion kit,
adjustable strut rods, export braces, Wilwood disc brakes at all four
corners and an adjustable proportioning valve replace just about
every part not welded to the chassis, and some that are. Ride
quality is excellent and handling is fantastic. Break away from the
suspension and you’ll notice the TREMEC TKO 5 speed transmission, the
built 9.. rear with 3.70 gears, subframe connectors and clean
floors.
Inside,
you’re sitting on Scat Procar vintage style seats, staring at Auto
Meter Phantom Series gauges and holding onto a Shelby wheel atop a
polished tilt column. Crow Enterprizes lap belts hold you in place
for acceleration blasts. A brushed stainless steel roll bar and a
rear seat delete kit ride behind you, while a Pioneer stereo with
four speakers is left to fend for itself against the exhaust system.
..Normal.. 1967 Shelbys move out OK. This car is pretty far from
OK. Let out the clutch, run casually through first gear, make very
sure you’re pointed where you
want to go, grab second gear and floor it. The sound, the
acceleration…it’s a drug injected directly into your soul, and you
want it again, right now.
The
car’s done well–we said that. The editors of Mustang Milestones
agreed, making it their cover and feature car for the 2008 issue.
It’s also taken best in class at the NMCA/Edelbrock Muscle Car show
at Lowes Motor Speedway in the same year.
Power,
control, attitude, awards and all of the little details done–this
is an amazing car.

At Auction Close
Successful Winning bidder must call 440-951-3000 or email sale@RHcollectibles.com within 24 hours after the auction has ended to verify purchase and make arrangements to complete the transaction. Within (4) business days of the end of auction, full payment must be received either by bank to bank wire transfer, cashiers-check, approved bank draft, or certified funds. If funds are not received, and an alternate arrangement has not been made, the vehicle can and will be made available to other potential buyers on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Our Guarantee
We have disclosed as much information as possible about this vehicle and aim to only carry quality pre-owned merchandise. R&H Collectibles recommends vehicles be inspected BEFORE leaving our facility. If upon personal and/or authorized professional inspection of the eBay purchased vehicle at our facility, buyer finds a substantial discrepancy between the published report and actual vehicle, we will either correct the problem at no charge, work out a compromise, or refund all monies paid. R&H Collectibles accepts bank to bank wire transfers, cashiers checks, certified funds, or verified drafts from known/approved financial institutions. We also accept payment from online lenders Capital One Auto Finance, and eBay Finance. All buyers pay a $100.00 administrative fee plus a $50.00 documentary fee. Ohio buyers must pay 6.25% sales tax plus applicable Ohio fees. Out-of-state buyers are responsible for their own taxes, registration, etc. in their own states.
